Ty's story
2-23-2018 Behavior evaluation done by K.L.S. , A.T. & B.S.
Blue, dog by dog w/same play style and energy, kids 10+
Ty is more environment oriented than he is people. He was really excited to sniff everything in the room and explore, he did greet us, and sought out a little attention but then went right back to his explorations.
He was tolerant of handling, but getting a hug did make him a little nervous, he got a little tense and started to lip lick, showing us that he was uncomfortable with the situation. In a home setting with people he knows well, he might enjoy a nice hug, or he might just not be that kind of dog.
When it came to new and loud sound, fast movements, or strange textures, he was very stable, kind of the "oh ok. Whatever" personality and then went back on his marry way.
It was hard to gage his food guarding since he had no interest in the food we were offering. But with any dog you should always use common sense, and not allow children near a dog when it is eating, or chewing on something, always feed pets separate, and if the dog has something it should not. Trade for it, never just grab it. Just grabbing it away can actually start to make guarding behavior develop, because they will think you want to take everything away from them.
For his interaction with a stranger, he greeted them well at first then once again could have cared less that they were there. He really just likes to do his own thing.
When you get Ty engaged in play, then we are looking at a different dog, he is excited, hyper, and a bit jumpy and rude. But he calms back down quickly. He is also very bright; he knows sit, down, shake, and other paw. So it seems like he learns well. It might be well advised to put him in a sent detection, or nose work class since he love to explore new things.
His dog to dog could not have been better, he was excited to meet stacks, and he wanted to play. Now that does not mean he will get along with every dog, just like people, not everyone likes everyone else.
If you are looking to add a new family member that might enjoy a good hike, or run this might be your match. He will need someone with a little bit of bully experience, but with the right home he is going to be a nice dog.
